Tenerife liderará el proyecto europeo “EUSky Route” para la creación de rutas astroturísticas

En la iniciativa participan entidades de Polonia, Italia, Portugal, Bulgaria, Grecia y España

El Cabildo, a través de Turismo de Tenerife, ha sido designada como entidad responsable de liderar el proyecto europeo EUSky Route, cuyo objetivo es crear rutas astroturísticas en los diferentes territorios participantes que den valor al patrimonio astronómico de los mismos y a sus recursos asociados. Junto a la Isla, las otras siete entidades socio en la iniciativa son de Polonia, Italia (con dos miembros), Portugal, Bulgaria, Grecia y España. EUSky Route está financiado por la Comisión Europea y su concesión ha corrido a cargo de la Dirección General de Empresas e Industria de la propia Comisión.

El presidente del Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, destaca la relevancia de que la Isla sea “la cabeza visible de un proyecto de tal alcance, pionero en Europa, que aportará nuevas posibilidades de ocio activo a la vez que de desarrollo económico y de creación de empleo en el ámbito turístico”. El presidente resalta “la indiscutible calidad del cielo de Tenerife, algo que corrobora la presencia del Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias y el complejo de observatorios de Izaña, en los que trabajan prestigiosos científicos nacionales e internacionales, y el hecho de que cada vez más estemos aprovechando sus excepcionales cualidades como recurso turístico único”.

EUSky Route permitirá brindar al turista nuevas posibilidades durante sus vacaciones, lo que redundará en la revalorización del destino y en la diversificación de opciones a su alcance frente al exclusivo sol y playa. Este es uno de los objetivos concretos de la iniciativa, que contempla igualmente el establecimiento de cinco rutas de observación del cielo y las estrellas en las regiones participantes, adecuadas a diferentes públicos objetivos como familias, grupos de amigos o mayores. 

También persigue incorporar nuevos perfiles profesionales a la oferta turística cultural y favorecer el desarrollo de un sistema de movilidad basado en la sostenibilidad y en el respeto al medioambiente.

En la iniciativa figuran entidades e instituciones no solo turísticas o astronómicas sino otras de carácter social o económico, circunstancia que favorecerá una aproximación integral al proyecto y la aportación en él de la experiencia de cada una de ellas en sus respectivos ámbitos.

Los participantes del proyecto celebrarán su primera reunión a finales de enero en Tenerife, en la que se establecerán las diferentes actividades a desarrollar para la creación de las rutas astronómicas, cuyo plazo se ha fijado en 18 meses. Durante ese tiempo resolverán aspectos como la financiación y los recursos técnicos e infraestructuras disponibles y a crear, el diseño de los paquetes turísticos y su contenido de acuerdo al comportamiento de los viajeros y las circunstancias del mercado o la implicación de otros participantes.

Tenerife​ hosts first EUSky Route meeting

The island leads the project which aims to create astrotourism routes in the different participating European nations

This week Tenerife is hosting the first meeting of EUSky Route, the European project funded by the European Commission and granted by the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission, which aims to create astrotourism routes in the participating countries. .As well as Tenerife, the other seven partner institutions in the initiative are Poland, Italy (two members), Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece and Spain.

EUSky Route envisages the design of sky watching and star gazing routes in participating regions for different target groups, such as families, groups of friends or older people. It also aims to incorporate new professional profiles to cultural tourism and promote the development of a mobility scheme based on sustainability and respect for the environment .

Project members

The drive not only includes tourism and astronomical bodies and institutions but those of a social or economic nature which will foster an integral approach to the project and will include the input of the experience of each one in their respective fields .

Taking part with Tenerife Tourism, the coordinator of the EUSky Route drive, are the National Astrophysics Institute of Cagliari (INAF) and the Institute of Regional Economic Trends (TENDER ), both from Italy; the Institute for Social Development of Lisbon (IDS ) from Portugal, the Centre for Science and Museum of Technology of Thessaloniki (NOESIS) from Greece, consultancy firm Gantcho Popov (GPOPOV) from Bulgaria , the Regional Tourism Organization of Subcarpathia (PROT) from Poland and the Valencia Agency of Tourism (AVT) from Spain.

The group arrived on the island yesterday [January 27]. A series of intense work sessions has followed, which have continued to today and have included a visit to the Teide National Park, the Izaña Observatory telescopes and stargazing in the evening.

During the meetings an agenda has been outlined for the different activities to be developed for creating the astronomy routes within the next 18 months. During this period, members of the project will resolve issues such as funding and technical resources and available infrastructure and those that need to be created; designing tour packages and their contents according to traveller behaviour and market circumstances as well as the involvement of the other participants.
