Oficina de Turismo de Tenerife en Londres"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Tourism Industry news<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel Bulletin, 16 August 2018: A third of Brits ignore travel warnings before going on holiday<br \/>\n<\/strong>New research by flight comparison site jetcost.co.uk, has revealed that as many as a third of Britons have ignored Foreign Office travel warnings before going on holiday &#8211; with only 21% heeding the advice if they knew a warning was in place. 2,174 people over the age of 18 were surveyed and all respondents had been on holiday abroad at least once in the past 12 months. Participants were firstly asked if they had ever followed a Foreign Office warning to not travel before going on holiday, to which 21% said that they had, 33% said that they had ignored a warning, whilst 46% revealed had never been aware of, or looked up whether there was a travel warning in place. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelbulletin.co.uk\/news-mainmenu\/a-third-of-brits-ignore-travel-warnings-before-going-on-holiday\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Mole, 14 August 2018: <\/strong><strong>Tourists cash in as Turkish lira falls to record low<\/strong><br \/>\nTravellers to Turkey have seen a huge fall in the overall cost of their trips after the lira dropped to a record low on Monday. As a result, holidaymakers will now get twice as many lira for their pounds as this time last year. The currency shift is expecting to fuel even greater demand for last-minute holidays to Turkey, which has seen an 84% increase in bookings via Thomas Cook alone this year. The lira, which is the worst performing currency of 2018, fell a further 9.8% against the dollar, on Monday before recovering to end the day 6.5% down. The pound is now 89% up on the lira compared to last August and 37% up on last month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelmole.com\/news_feature.php?c=setreg&amp;region=2&amp;m_id=s~dnbY!Y!&amp;w_id=34998&amp;news_id=2033578\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Weekly, 14 August <\/strong><strong>2018: Tenerife top holiday spot for families<\/strong><br \/>\nA poll reveals that Tenerife is the favourite European beach holiday destination for British families. Almost one in five (19%) ranked the island as their overall favourite, just ahead of Majorca (18%), according to the On the Beach survey of 1,000 families. The Costa Del Sol was next with 13% of the vote followed by the Algarve at 11% and Gran Canaria in fifth place. Other destinations named as favourites included Cyprus (9%), Lanzarote (9%), Costa Blanca (8%) and Ibiza (8%). Half of British families believe a one-week holiday abroad is cheaper than a week\u2019s holiday in the UK, with less than one in three (30%) saying a holiday abroad costs about the same. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelweekly.co.uk\/articles\/309641\/tenerife-top-holiday-spot-for-families\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>TTG, 16 August 2018: In-flight drunken behaviour could hit record highs this year, CAA warns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to new CAA data, the number of incidents involving disruptive passengers, as reported by UK airlines, has increased year-on-year from 98 in 2013 to 417 last year. And in 2018 to date, before the busy summer getaway has even got under way, there has already been 202. The CAA said many incidents involved \u201cacts of violent and intimidating behaviour\u201d. It has now has called for immediate and far-reaching government action to crack down on violent and drunken airline passengers, putting fellow passengers and cabin crew at risk. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgmedia.com\/news\/news\/in-flight-drunken-behaviour-could-hit-record-highs-this-year-caa-warns-15158\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Airlines <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel Daily, 13 August 2018: EasyJet launches new route from London to Rovaniemi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>British low-cost airline company easyJet has announced a new route from London Gatwick to Rovaniemi, Finland.\u00a0<\/strong>Starting from 31\u00a0October 2018, Rovaniemi will be served by easyJet twice weekly\u00a0on Wednesday\u00a0and Sunday.\u00a0The new service is expected to carry more than 13,000 customers in the first winter of operation.<\/p>\n<p>The dominance of British travellers to\u00a0Rovaniemi, the \u2018Official Hometown of Santa Claus\u2019, has been tangible especially during the past two winter seasons. In Rovaniemi, the\u00a0<strong>number of British travellers grew nearly 40% from 2016 to 2017. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldailymedia.com\/easyjet-london-to-rovaniemi\/\">LINK<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Weekly, 10 August 2018: EasyJet confirms Jordan service in winter expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>EasyJet is to start flying to Aqaba in Jordan from Gatwick this winter. The Red Sea destination has been added as part of a series of new routes from UK airports. Posters and graffiti have appeared in Barcelona in the latest campaign against over-tourism. \u201cTourists go home, and please, practise balconing!\u201d one message said, making light of the craze where people jump off hotel or apartment balconies, often injuring or killing themselves,\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>\u00a0reported. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelweekly.co.uk\/articles\/309898\/barcelona-anti-tourism-campaigners-condemned-for-practice-balconing-posters\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Daily, 15 August 2018: German Tourism push fun in the sun with \u2018German Summer Cities\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has announced details for its new, hopefully, viral marketing campaign called German Summer Cities.<\/strong> Focusing on the country\u2019s urban centres, with equal footing given to smaller regional towns, German Summer Cities will make use of pop-up events, action weeks \u2013 incorporating the five themes of the campaign \u2013 and social media to spread the concept, using the hashtag, #GermanSummerStories. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldailymedia.com\/german-tourism-push-fun-in-the-sun-with-german-summer-cities\/\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Weekly, 13 August 2018: Rise in winter visitors to Balearic Islands<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Balearic Islands have recorded a near 25% increase in UK visitor numbers last winter compared to the year before. From November 2017 to March 2018, 146,841 people made the journey from the UK to the islands of Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. That represented a 24.91% increase compared to the winter season running from November 2016 to March 2017, which saw 117,562 UK tourists make the trip. The Balearic Islands Tourism Board said this increase highlights a growing appetite for travel to the islands outside of the peak season off the back of its strategy to drive visitors in the shoulder season. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelweekly.co.uk\/articles\/309614\/rise-in-winter-visitors-to-balearic-islands\">LINK<\/a><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nTravel Bulletin, 9 August 2018: New easyJet flights unlock Jordan as winter sun destination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board have announced that easyJet will begin flying to the Kingdom from this November. Today, the airline delivered the news that it will be launching two new routes to Aqaba from London and Berlin, detailing that the new route from Gatwick will commence on Saturdays with a frequency of one flight per week through to March 23. Tickets are now on sale on the easyJet website with prices from \u00a341.98 one way and are expected to bring in several thousand new tourists a year. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelbulletin.co.uk\/news-mainmenu\/new-easyjet-flights-unlock-jordan-as-winter-sun-destination\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Travellers and travel agents<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel Weekly, 16 August 2018: <\/strong><strong>On the Beach acquires Classic Collection<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the Beach is taking over specialist operator Classic Collection Holidays for \u00a320 million. Classic Collection reported earnings [EBITDA] of \u00a32.6 million and assets of \u00a318 million for the year to October 2017. On the Beach pledged to invest to grow Classic Collection\u2019s portfolio of luxury holidays. The group will support plans to build and launch an online booking portal to provide agents with access to a portfolio of mainstream beach holiday product under a new brand \u2018Classic Online\u2019. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelweekly.co.uk\/articles\/309162\/on-the-beach-acquires-classic-collection\">LINK<\/a><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>TTG, 16 August 2018: <\/strong><strong>Virgin Holidays and Tui outline captive whale and dolphin strategies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Virgin Holidays believes making an \u201cabrupt\u201d decision to take whale and dolphin attractions off sale would \u201cminimise its ability to exert positive influence\u201d, while Tui has confirmed more audits. The remarks follow\u00a0Thomas Cook\u2019s recent decision to take SeaWorld off sale next year. The operator acknowledged \u201cchanging public attitudes towards animal welfare\u201d, noting 90% of Cook customers were concerned about the issue. <em>TTG<\/em>\u00a0approached Tui and Virgin Holidays to hear their stance \u2013 both continue to sell SeaWorld.
