France is not in the least bit of trouble for medical tourism….

For the first time in 2019, IFTM Top Resa dedicated a space to «medical tourism». An international market in full expansion, estimated at more than 60 billion dollars worldwide, yet it is underdeveloped in France. The country is struggling to structure itself to receive foreign patients, while the quality of its healthcare system is well established.

For the first time, IFTM Top Resa dedicated a village to «medical tourism», during the last edition, from 1 to 4 October 2019, bringing together only… two market players. Proof that the market is in its infancy in France. TourMag

Neozig, the travel agency that plays a key role in disintermediation

Pauline Maillard does not come from the world of tourism. Nor does she book her travel through an agency. So, by launching its own agency, Neozig, last August, it wanted to address a clientele that is looking for advice and time saving. Although her activity is more similar to coaching, she is registered. With Neozig, Pauline Maillard offers her clients autonomous stays. Its aim is to eliminate as many intermediaries as possible between travellers and service providers. TourMag

Thomas Cook’s failure: TUI increases its capacity by 2 million seats

If the bankruptcy of the emblematic British tour operator is already causing havoc in the industry, some operators who are still well established should benefit from it. Thus, the TUI group is increasing its air capacity by two million seats from the United Kingdom in the summer of 2020, according to various British media. As a result, TUI is expected to add approximately 10,000 links to its global flight plan. To operate these links, which will take tourists from Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow to their holiday destinations. TUI Airways will intentionally create positions for 50 captains, 50 pilots and 200 crew members, many of whom will be recruited from the rival. Echo Touristique

The President of Thomas Cook France comes out of his silence

«Mea culpa for not having communicated externally, but my priority was to manage procedures, employees, business partners, suppliers and especially customers at destination and those ready to leave,» continued the president for France, the company’s current corporate officer. The first priority, he explains, was to repatriate customers (8,000 of the 10,000 returned after the first week) with the effective help of the APST (Association Professionnelle de Solidarité du Tourisme) and a team of 10 people from TC headquarters specially dedicated. «The first week was terrible, the second week even worse. The peak of the crisis is now coming down but other topics are coming up on the table». La Quotidienne
