The Welsh and Scottish governments have said they will work together to try to keep the UK in the European Union. Mark Drakeford and Nicola Sturgeon also called on the next prime minister to «change course and rule out» leaving the EU without a deal. Link

Thomas Cook has created a programme of in-resort activities «designed to make a positive contribution» to the destinations customers visit. A range of 13 Love Local experiences are currently available to its customers in locations including mainland Spain, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Mexico and Cuba with Cook aiming to offer 70 by summer 2020. Link

Holidaymakers can delve into Malta’s colourful history as the tourism authority added the pre-history trail to the series of maps. The final addition to the maps series, pre-history trail will help travellers step back in time to see the vibrant past of this Mediterranean archipelago, which boasts a history that pre-dates the Egyptian pyramids by 1,000 years. The Maltese Islands has temples, churches, statues and catacombs with remains dating back to 4,000 BC. Link

Reports from the city said two suicide bombers had launched separate attacks on police officers on Thursday (27 June), killing one officer and wounding several other people after blowing themselves up. Link

A British tourist has drowned after falling off a pedalo and being dragged out to sea on Spain’s popular Costa Dorada. Local reports said the 31-year-old man was spotted struggling in the water off Regueral Beach in Cambrils shortly before 5pm on Sunday. Link

Travel Weekly, 25 June 2019: Palma sees winter tourism growth

The number of British holidaymakers visiting Palma in the winter season rose by 9%. The Majorcan capital attracted almost 135,000 visitors from the UK between October and April against 123,590 in the same period a year earlier. Link
