Flights, hotels, rentals: Google gives a boost

Like Booking and Airbnb, Google is changing to become a travel hub. Over the past few months, Google has been developing functionalities to become a one-stop shop for travel reservations. The research giant is tackling theft, accommodation and activities. Travel agencies and other carriers must be fully aware of its wishes to become a major player. It remains to be seen whether they will ultimately be partners or competitors – probably both. Echo Touristique

Airbnb has carried half a billion passengers

The Californian platform announces that it has registered 500 million travellers in 11 years, the equivalent of the population of the European Union. Where are his customers going? Europe is the most popular destination: so far, almost half (45%) of passenger arrivals have been in Europe – more than the combined total in North America and Asia. Every night, nearly 750,000 travellers enter Airbnb accommodation in Europe, more than on any other continent, says a statement issued this morning. The Old Continent also has the largest number of cities (380) with more than 1,000 ads. Echo Touristique
