An event in November to honour Denmark, Finland and Norway
Denmark, Finland and Norway are meeting this year for the first edition of Be Nordic -‐ an event
celebrating Nordic travel and lifestyle with three days of Nordic meetings, workshops and experiences
for professionals and the general public, from 23 to 25 November 2018, at Café A -‐ 148 rue du faubourg
Saint Martin, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
UNWTO focuses on urban tourism
Urban tourism and its potential for more sustainable and inclusive cities will be at the heart of the
seventh WTO World Summit on Urban Tourism to be held in Seoul, Korea, from 16 to 19 September
2018. This summit is the first of its kind in North-‐East Asia. It aims to encourage the adoption of new
strategic approaches to the challenge posed by the growth of the tourism sector and its impact on
urban destinations. Topics will include innovative approaches to the competitiveness of urban
destinations, the impact of technology on urban tourism, urban renewal and action to promote more
inclusive urban development.

European pilots strike at Ryanair
On Friday 10 August, pilots based in five European countries decided to stop work, forcing the Irish
low-‐cost airline to cancel nearly 400 flights in the middle of the summer season. In total, more than
55,000 passengers will be affected, including 42,000 for Germany, according to the company which
promised the injured passengers «a free change of reservation». 85% of their flights will be operated
by Ryanair. «More than 2,000 flights will operate normally, carrying nearly 400,000 passengers across
Europe,» the Irish airline said Thursday evening on Twitter. The low-‐cost company, which claims 130
million annual customers, denounces «an unnecessary strike».
Airlines: welcome to the era of ultra-‐long haul (20h non-‐stop)
While the Australian airline company Qantas has just signed a new codeshare with Air France, shortly
after launching a direct link between Perth and London, Singapore Airlines will re-‐open at the end of
the year a line of more than 15,000 km between Singapore and New York. And both Boeing and Airbus
are working on aircrafts that can fly ever farther and longer.
